Research & Development Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • li_ico Managerial responsibility for direct reports including electrical, embedded, software, and mechanical engineers and support staff.
  • li_ico Responsible for multiple development programs, ensuring that system requirements are met with robust, cost-effective designs.
  • li_ico Responsible for assigning tasks and establishing success criteria.
  • li_ico Review and approve team lead designs to ensure applicable standards are met and that important tolerance stacks have been documented showing acceptable results.
  • li_ico Review the results of design analyses as well as the methods used.
  • li_ico Prepares system level design reviews and presents them to the executive teams.
  • li_ico Exercise sound judgement in assessing the validity of assumptions made.
  • li_ico Responsible for ensuring the required analyses for assigned projects are completed.
  • li_ico Responsible for final engineering approval of new designs thru the PLM system.
  • li_ico Review and approve test plans, ensuring that they are logical and thorough.
  • li_ico Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of engineering verification testing of all system requirements.
  • li_ico Responsible for ensuring systems are designed with consideration for ease of manufacturing and inspection and that systems cost meets plan.
  • li_ico Responsible for ensuring Intellectual Property is protected.
  • li_ico Provide technical assistance to other departments within Sig Sauer as needed.
  • li_ico Interacts with customers and end users and preparing presentations for new development programs and updates on the status of these programs.
  • li_ico Drive Continuous Improvement in R&D operations.
  • li_ico Monitor the latest developments in the industry and evaluate their implications.
  • li_ico Participates in and sustains 5S Standards.
  • li_ico Must follow all required ISO procedures, comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements, and adhere to SIG SAUER, Inc. security mandates.
  • li_ico Must be able to travel infrequently.
  • li_ico Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Desired Skills

  • li_ico Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and 10 or more years engineering experience working in a R&D environment, 3 or more of which were in a managerial capacity.
  • li_ico Must have 3 years of experience in the defense industry.
  • li_ico Must be able to convey ideas and information clearly, concisely, and accurately to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • li_ico Must be proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • li_ico Proficiency using Microsoft Project is preferred.
  • li_ico Must be experienced using a PLM system for complete systems lines (Agile is preferred).
  • li_ico Must be detail-oriented and able to understand and review complex analyses.
  • li_ico Must have a fundamental understanding of manufacturing methods.
  • li_ico Must have practical experience with mechanical, mechatronics and electrical assembly.
  • li_ico Must be able to pro-actively define and resolve highly complex problems by collecting and analyzing data, establishing facts, drawing valid conclusions, and executing viable solutions.
  • li_ico Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 standards including GD&T is preferred.
  • li_ico Familiarity with ITAR, and EAR regulations is preferred.
  • li_ico Familiarity with NATO and TOP standards as well as Mil-Specs is preferred.
  • li_ico Experience using and maintaining firearms and/or related systems is preferred.
  • li_ico Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
